Ditching the Mom Guilt

Below is video and a great piece from this morning’s Today Show with Dr. Meg Meeker and Robin Ludwig on the phenomenon of “Mom Guilt”.

“I think 85% of what moms worry about is that false guilt. The sense I’m never good enough. I’m always doing  something wrong. I think it stems from the sense we have, we believe we are responsible for our kids’ feelings, their successes, their failures, whether they are bored or not. We are responsible for everything. This is wrong. We are not.” -Meg Meeker

Living up to our culture’s expectations of “perfection” can drive a good mother into this sense of “false guilt”. That’s just wrong. Love your kids. Do your best. But let’s all stop comparing ourselves to the other mom in the minivan at the stoplight.

Good thoughts. Also, from my experience, a lot of parents are competitive with other parents, and that just makes things worse. No more guilt or competition. Can’t we all just get along?
